POSITION:                            Engineering Technician (Part-Time)


SALARY RANGE:                 $38,773 - $57,436

Under general supervision, performs professional water system engineering, planning and water quality work.  Work will have a role in the development and implementation of the District’s Capital Improvement Program; designs and provides related field inspection on a variety of water system improvements; assists in the management of consulting and construction contracts; assists in the implementation of water quality compliance and performs related work as required. 




  • Reviews water system development plans for completeness and conformance with District standards; assists in issuing construction permits.
  • Assists in building, maintaining, updating and utilizing computerized hydraulic models as a design tool; performs field tests required for calibrating the hydraulic model, which may include fire flow tests, pipe flow tests and pump tests.
  • Provides field investigation as part of engineering assignments; inspects project work sites to ensure project activities are in compliance with District specification and policies; documents progress and field changes; assembles test results and as-built certification for Engineers Certificate of Completion.
  • Investigates/prepares technical reports, specifications, and develops cost estimates in connection with various Capital Improvement Program and other engineering projects; assists in development of contract and bid documents; reviews proposals, plans and specifications prepared by consulting engineers.
  • Assists in project management, budgeting and contracting for miscellaneous consulting and construction services, such as Requests for Proposals/Qualifications (RFPs/RFQs) and Job Order Contracts (JOCs).
  • Assists in the preparation of designs, drawings, and plans for construction and improvement projects; performs drafting of plans, maps, and other drawings.
  • Assists in the development of water quality compliance scheduling, sampling and tracking; performs quality control verification of water resources database; assists in well production tracking and reporting; identifies trends from analytical data; assists with preparation of Annual Water Quality Reports.
  • Assists in development and updates for District permits including, but not limited to, Air Quality Permits (generators), Underground Storage Facility and Water Storage Permits, Industrial Wastewater Control Permits and Water Quality Waivers. 




Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.  Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions may be considered.  Requires four (4) years experience working in civil engineering directly related to design or construction; register as an Engineer-in Training (EIT).
