Utility Technician II position


METRO WATER DISTRICT is seeking candidates to fill a Utility Technician II position. The ideal candidate must exercise independent judgment, professionalism, initiative, and be highly motivated with the ability to work independently and as a team.

Job Summary:
Under general direction of a Utility Supervisor, employees of this class perform skilled, semiskilled work, and equipment operation duties necessary for the maintenance, repair, and installation of the District’s production, and distribution systems.

Essential Job Functions:
• Operates and maintains heavy equipment.
• Operates and maintains power, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
• Performs Blue Stake functions.
• Performs the installation, maintenance, and repairs on distribution assets including but not limited to: piping, valves, fittings, assemblies, hydrants, water mains, service lines, meters, fencing, vaults, pressure relief valves, pressure reducing valves, drain valve assemblies, corrosion test stations, and instrumentation.
• Performs operations to maintain water quality in the distribution system such as sampling, testing, and flushing.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs water metering systems and components.
• Performs installation, maintenance, and repairs of the District’s production assets and facilities including but not limited to: pumps, motors, wells, tanks, pressure vessels, air compressors, water quality monitoring equipment, treatment systems, fencing, structures, security, pressure relief valves, pressure reducing valves, chlorination equipment, flow meters, generator, and auxiliary pumping equipment.
• Perform pump tests, analyze data, and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
• Work with chemicals, analyzers and metering pumps in the operation of District facilities.
• Collects water quality samples.

Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and two (2) year experience in operating and maintaining public water utility assets; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have and maintain a minimum of an Arizona Grade I Operators Certification in water distribution.

The salary range for this position is $49,674 – $72,211. The District offers full competitive benefits and membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.
